It’s wonderful, praise God, that rapper the Game is trying to find his place in Jesus Christ…but, I have to wonder who is his pastor or who baptized him? According to the Game, he seems to be very conscious that there needs to be life change when one submits his or her life to Jesus Christ. However, he seems reluctant to give up the lifestyle habits he’s used to. He spoke with Rap Up magazine about his new album “Jesus Piece” (is that a trend now?) and how he feels about having a relationship with God and still “doing me” and not being ridiculed.
This is what Rap Up reports:
“You want to believe in God, but you don’t want to be criticized and ridiculed by people who think that they’re better than you,” he told Rap-Up TV. “I don’t want to feel like I can’t love God or appreciate Jesus and have to put down that blunt. I want to smoke, maybe shower up, then go to church. Get the word, walk out of church, maybe smoke again, maybe hit up a strip club or two and do me, but I don’t want to be ridiculed.”
He called out rappers, including himself, for their hypocritical behavior. “We spend $25-50,000 on a Jesus piece, but then we’re reluctant to put $100 in the collection plate,” he said. “We’ll talk about how we love God, but we won’t give nothing back.”
The top comment on the YouTube video (out of about 72) seem to get at the point about being in the world but not of the world.
Skripmusic – “Basically, the homie Game saying ‘I don’t want to feel like I can’t love God or appreciate Jesus and have to put down my blunt..go to a strip club, do me’ Regardless of bringing God in the mix or saying the name Jesus doesn’t mean a thing that’s a mind that is at enmity with God. (Enemy of God) That’s according to scripture. Jesus says the lukewarm he will spit of his mouth, lukewarm=Going to church, claiming allegiance to Christ but breaking every one of his laws continually. Hope that helps!”
“For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.-Romans 8:7”
According to a report from The Christian Post, the Game was baptized at Pastor Noel Jones‘ church in California. I am guessing the Game still attends Jones’ church, the City of Refuge in Gardena. However, is there any discipleship going on? How is a convert to Christ to know what Christ requires if he has no mentors or people in his or her life to help them in the process of becoming more Christ-like, or making their life open to becoming more Christ-like? The Game also is responsible for his own behavior and submission to Christ…and the conflicted message he’s sending to fans.
I really pray that the Word the Game received fell on good ground, goes deep and becomes fruitful. God bless him and keep him. Perhaps the Lord will have someone from his own context and background who knows Christ as Lord and Savior reach out to him and help impact his life
