Talk about a photo op gone awry. Apparently Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, or perhaps his “people”, thought it would be wise for the GOP vice presidential candidate to drop by unannounced at a soup kitchen while in Ohio recently. Bad move.
According to Brian J. Antag, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society in Youngstown, Congressman Ryan and his family did nothing. Although Ryan was photographed washing a pot…it was allegedly already clean.
CBS News reports:
“They showed up there and they did not have permission,” (Antag) said. “They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.” Antag added that Ryan and his family “did nothing” while on the premises.
“He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall,” he said.
Ryan was photographed cleaning “large metal pans that did not appear to be dirty” during a 15-minute visit, the Post previously reported. While television cameras rolled and photographers snapped pictures, the Wisconsin congressman discussed washing dishes while he was younger. He said he would get calluses on his fingers due to the heat from the industrial machine.
I wonder if Mr. Ryan and his “people” realize now that he looks really lame for pretending he was in a self-less charitable mood and just had to find somewhere to let it all out. Thank God the place wasn’t actually open at the time and that there were no folks in need who could have ended up as photo-op props. This really doesn’t help the Romney-Ryan campaign — Mitt Romney already comes across as a super-rich, out of touch robot and now Ryan looks like a total poser.
Perhaps if such acts were already a part of his life, he wouldn’t have to pretend.
