Apparently, nothing much is sacred anymore, as this bit of news about a Philadelphia wedding gone horribly wrong reveals. According to ABC News:
Philadelphia police have been investigating a violent brawl inside a hotel between the guests of two different wedding parties that left one man dead from an apparent heart attack, and three others arrested.
Dozens of police officers responded to the violent clash in the lobby of the Sheraton Society Hill in Philadelphia Sunday around 2 a.m. At one point the fight got so chaotic that police used batons on those who resisted their efforts to break up the fight. One person had to be subdued with a Taser. Police said the use of such force was justified.
What a shame when something like this happens at a wedding, and police of all people have to come in with clubs and Tasers. And the gentleman who died, he was the bride’s uncle apparently.
One reader, “brigbar”, had this say: “How sad. Both brides will look back on their wedding day with this as the main event? WHY must people get drunk? Have a few drinks but must they have a contest as to who can drink the most? Two weddings were ruined. All the time, money and effort put into them and this is the result? This is why I say ‘and they walk among us’. People have become so angry and nasty…for no good reason.”
Another reader at ABC News didn’t think alcohol was to blame.
“‘The bottom line; alcohol.’…..Really? Jeez…I would agree except I can’t seem to find all the other stories about everyone who ingested alcohol this weekend getting into fights. There were far more people having a good time this weekend with alcohol than there were people starting fights at weddings. Maybe the people have something to do with that. Maybe the people are the bottom line,’ wrote “ultra creative member”.
